Ampere Primus vs OLA S1 Pro: Differences you need to know

In the two-wheeler EV market, the Ola S1 Pro is among the bestselling indigenous EV scooters in the country. In fact, it topped the sales chart last year, followed by the TVS iQube. The Ola S1 Pro is the top-of-the-line offering from Ola Electric Mobility. You can check out the full list of Ola scooters on the autoX website.
On the other hand, the Ampere Primus is also a homegrown electric scooter, sold by Greaves Cotton Limited. This company, however, decided to start their EV division under the name of Ampere. The Ampere Primus is also the flagship offering in the company’s portfolio.
Both the EV scooters, however, come with a standard variant. There is a major price difference between the Ola S1 Pro and the Primus. There is approximately a difference of Rs 32,000 between these two offerings. Also, there are other Ampere scooters that are similarly priced to other variants of the Ola S1.
So, let’s begin weighing these two bikes and see how the new Ampere Primus squares off with the Ola S1 Pro.
The Power
For starters, let’s talk about the battery pack that powers the Ampere Primus. The indigenous bike manufacturer offered a standard 3kWh LFP battery, coupled with a 3.4kW electric motor (PMS). As per the company, the top speed the Primus can attain is 77 km/h. This scooter is tuned to produce 4 kW of peak power. The torque figure of the Primus is unknown.
You can buy the fast charger for the Ampere Primus separately. Yes, it is an optional accessory.
As for the range, the company claims that the Ampere Primus has a range of 107 km in Power mode. The Power mode, as the name might hint is like a Sport mode. Just so you know, the Ampere Primus has three riding modes- Eco, City and Power. The dedicated portable charger of the Primus can fully replenish the battery pack in five hours. However, you can check out the Ampere Primus price on the autoX website.
Battery
On the contrary, the Ola S1 Pro has a slightly bigger battery pack, rated at 3.97 kWh. And a bigger battery pack translates to more charging time and extra range. Moreover, this battery pack is tuned to deliver a maximum power of 8.5 kW with a peak torque of 58 Nm. With this battery pack, the Ola company claims that the S1 Pro has a top speed of 116 km/h and a claimed range of 181 km on a full charge. Speaking of batteries, the standard charger of the Ola S1 Pro can fully charge the battery pack of the S1 in 6.5 hrs. At the same time, if you use the fast charger for 18 minutes, you might get a range of 75 km to 80 km. The battery pack is coupled with a Mid Drive IPM.
Unlike the Ola S1 Pro, the Ampere Primus has a portable battery.
The gradability of the batteries on the S1 Pro and the Ampere Primus are rated at 7 degrees and 12 degrees, respectively. More the gradability rate, the better it is, as high-grade batteries tend to be more robust and durable.
The carry capacities of these two electric scooters are rated at 150 kg.
As for the rated power, the Primus has a rated power of 3400 W, while the Ola S1 Pro has a rated power of 5500 W. For your reference, the term ‘rated power’ is used to indicate the non-stop power a battery pack can produce without overheating. The Ola S1 can unleash more power and that too continuously.
Considering the S1 Pro’s price, which is slightly on the higher side- it shouldn’t let the owner lament the offerings that this scooter packs.
Moreover, the Ampere Primus has three riding modes: Eco, City and Power. In contrast, the Ola S1 Pro boasts four riding modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Hyper.
Suspension
Keeping the engine outputs of these two scooters, let’s now jump to their suspension setups. The Ampere Primus has a telescopic fork at the front and a dual shock absorber at the rear. On the other hand, the Ola S1 Pro has a conventional suspension setup, as it bags a single fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. That said, these homegrown bikes are designed keeping Indian roads in mind. So, they shouldn’t let the rider complain about rideability. At the same time, both these EV scooters can sail through bad patches pretty well, as their suspension setups are capable enough of absorbing bumps from potholes.
Moreover, the Ampere Primus has dual drums as standard, while the Ola S1 Pro has dual disc brakes as standard. In addition, it is worth noting that these two scooters have one variant only. But, considering the Primus’s price, the company should have offered a disc-drum setup, if not dual disc brakes.
Keeping safety in mind, both bikes come with a dual-channel ABS or Combined Braking System (CBS). For your reference, a two-wheeler with dual disc brakes and dual-channel ABS will boast more stability and impressive braking power- which can decrease the chances of the owner meeting with an accident, especially on emergency brakings. Be it any surface, wet or dry, that combination won’t make the rider fear the type of road condition. Also, you can check out the Ola S1 Pro and the TVS iQube S comparison on the autoX website.
Given the dual drum brakes on the Ampere Primus, its braking power might feel inferior to the Ola S1 Pro. Further, both scooters run on 12-inch alloy wheels. Unlike the Primus, the Ola S1 Pro also boasts a dual-piston brake calliper.
Features
As far as the features are concerned, the Ola S1 Pro has a fully digital instrument cluster, which displays all the relevant readings. One notable feature of the S1 Pro includes the parking assist feature. For your reference, this feature can let the rider reverse the S1 scooter just by using an accelerator. Moreover, this Ola bike boasts a regenerative braking feature, touch screen display, LED DRLs, mobile app connectivity, GPS navigating system, and OTA updates. Other features include call/SMS alerts, a central locking system, a USB port, artificial sound, a hill assist, an anti-theft system, geo-fencing, and a killswitch. Furthermore, it has LED lights that can be seen inside the headlight, taillight, brake light and turn signals. You should check out the S1 price on autoX if you are a feature-oriented buyer.
On the other hand, the Ampere Primus isn’t as feature-loaded as the Ola S1 Pro. But then again, there is a major price difference between the two offerings. It has a digital instrument cluster, a reverse mode, mobile app connectivity without OTA updates, a USB port and an LED headlight. The brake and indicators comprise halogen bulbs.
So, these are a few features and specifications of these two electric scooters. You can, however, access the full list of information on the autoX website.
