Ola S1 Pro Gen 2: Newer the Better Scooters

The Bengaluru-based electric automobile manufacturer added the second generation Ola S1 Pro to its portfolio, which offers more powertrain output but comes with fewer features than the first generation Ola S1 Pro. At the same time, the battery pack is the same as its predecessor. As of now, the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 is the flagship among the Ola bikes available in the country.
But, as mentioned earlier, this flagship offering doesn’t offer as many features as its first generation. So, is it worth shelling out a premium over the first generation? Let’s find that out.

Specifications

Slightly unlike its predecessor, the second-generation Ola S1 Pro is structured using a tubular frame- but with a metal sheet, making the build quality more robust. Furthermore, the new iteration also boasts a better suspension setup than the first generation. Unlike the S1 Pro’s front single fork suspension, the new S1 Pro Gen 2 stands on a twin telescopic fork suspension at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear, which has been retained.
It is worth noting that the homegrown vehicles are engineered by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. As a result, those vehicles can sail through the undulations and soak the bumps from potholes with ease.
Now, as far as the figures are concerned, the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 gets the same battery pack as the first generation, rated at 4 kWh. But, interestingly, it has an increased mileage and better overall output, thanks to improved software and BMS (battery management system). That said, the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 has a maximum power of 11,000 W and a rated power of 5,000 W. For your reference, the ‘rated power’ stands for the continuous power the vehicle can deliver without overheating the electric motor. The top speed is also increased from 116 km/h to 120 km/h.

Engine

As for the range, the indigenous company claims the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 has an improved range. Thanks to the improved software and battery management system, the new generation Ola S1 Pro has a claimed range of 195 km, making it 25 km more than the first generation’s 170 km range. However, it is worth noting that the real-world range might vary with factors, such as the local traffic conditions and individuals’ riding styles.
The type of the motor on this EV is the same as before which is a Mid Drive IPM.
Given the new generation S1 Pro’s price, which commands a slightly more premium than the first generation, the customer won’t feel it under-valued. Because there is a bump in range, as a result, it will reduce the “range anxiety”.
Apart from that, the range can vary with the ride mode as well. For instance, if you drive on Eco mode, you will get a better range than you will get from Normal and Hyper modes. It has a total of four ride modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Hyper.
Last but not least, this homegrown electric two-wheeler is available with a 750 W portable charger. It, however, takes 6.5 hours to fully replenish the battery.

Tyres and Brakes

The Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 has the same tyre profile as the first generation. It continues to run on a 12-inch alloy rim and has a standard tyre profile of 110/70 R12 at the front and rear.
At the same time, the braking duties are taken care of by dual disc brakes. The size of disc brakes is also the same, which is 220m and 180mm at the front and rear, respectively. It is worth mentioning that the presence of dual disc brakes offers a superior braking performance than the conventional dual-drum and disc-drum brakes.
On the safety front, the new Ola scooter continues to have a combined braking system (CBS). This safety offering decreases the chances of a mishap.

The Proportions

As far as the dimensions are concerned, the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 is dimensionally better than the first generation, except for the wheelbase and the ground clearance. Going forward, the new generation of the S1 Pro has a length of 1861mm, a width of 850mm, and a height of 1288mm, and it sits on a wheelbase of 1359mm. The wheelbase, however, is the same as before. Moreover, the seat height has been increased from 792mm to 805mm. But the ground clearance is down from 165mm to 160mm.
That said, the ride height might be a concern, especially when sailing through rough patches. Besides that, the kerb weight decreased from 126 kg to 116 kg, contributing as one of the major factors for improved range.

Features

Coming to the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 features, this electric scooter is equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster but the company has dropped its resolution from 1280 x 768 to 800 x 480. It is a touchscreen display, though.
This EV also supports mobile app connectivity, a side-stand alarm, a low battery indicator, a digital clock, and GPS and navigation. For added convenience, this vehicle also has a pass light, park assist, cruise control, reverse mode, and a start/stop button. Further, it has a party mode, a remote boot unlock, Bluetooth, and predictive maintenance.
For lighting, it continues to have LED DRLs, LED turn signals, LED-brake- and tail lights.
So, these were the offerings of the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2.

Prices and Variants
The indigenous automobile manufacturer offers the S1 Pro Gen 2 in one variant only, the standard (STD). The customer can choose the body paint from five colour options, such as Amethyst, Stellar Blue, Jet Black, Matt White, and Midnight Blue.
Given the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2’s price, which is Rs 1.47 lakh ( avg. ex-showroom), it takes on the likes of the Ather 450X, Simple One, Hero Vida V1 Pro, and the TVS iQube, to name a few.
