The Japanese automotive manufacturer recently updated its offerings (scooters and bikes) to meet the stage two BS6 norms. As for the Yamaha bikes, the company has updated the FZ series, R15 V4, and the MT-15 V2. That said, they now come with a few added features, along with new colour options. Just so you know, the phase two BS6 norms require all two- and four-wheelers to support the OBD-2 or RDE norms, as it can track the real-time engine performance and the current health status of the vehicle. Having said that, the BS6 Phase-2 norms will come into effect from April 1, 2023.

The fourth version (4V) of the Yamaha R15 is a fully-faired 155cc bike that takes on the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, Bajaj Pulsar RS200, and the KTM RC125.
Yamaha Motors India added a new colour to the base model of the 2023 R15, while its top model, the M boasts a few added features. For the top model, check out the R15 price on the autoX website.

Underneath the frame

This Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer structured the Yamaha R15 on its in-house designed and developed Deltabox frame. As per the company, this frame can be categorised as a Diamond frame, but they preferred giving this frame the Deltabox moniker, as it boasts a unique Yamaha design philosophy. However, the Deltabox frame on this bike supports a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, which is tuned to produce 18.1 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of peak torque at 7500 rpm. It packs the most power in its segment, except for the torque. This bike’s engine works and pumps out the power via a standard six-speed manual transmission. Apart from the rivals mentioned above, another closest rival to this bike is the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. There are other TVS bikes that can rival the Yamaha R15.
Moreover, the Yamaha R15 can reach a top speed of 140 km/h.

Engine

Despite the new BS6 Stage 2 norms, this bike has the same engine output as the outgoing BS6 engine. Given the engine and transmission combination, there is no ARAI-certified mileage of the updated Yamaha R15. But, the Yamaha R15’s real-world mileage is 46 km/l. Please note that this real-world mileage figure is based on feedback from the owners. In addition, the actual fuel efficiency of a vehicle can vary with local traffic conditions and individuals’ riding styles. However, the Yamaha R15 has a good mileage figure, especially considering the engine output. Speaking of fuel efficiency, this Yamaha bike stores its fuel in a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres. Had the fuel tank been bigger, it would have offered more riding range, as the fuel tank capacity usually translates to the range.

Besides that, you can thank the fuel injection technology that makes these BS6 two-wheelers more fuel efficient in nature. Before implementing the BS6 norms, the central government of India ordered all two-wheeler manufacturers to use fuel injection technology in BS6 engines. There are several pros to having that state-of-the-art technology, as it can prevent the vehicle from lagging on cold starts, and make it less polluting than before, as this technology boasts a controlled and clean fuel supply system. It also doesn’t let the bike jerk when riding uphill or accelerating from a standstill.

Suspension

Keeping the engine performance aside, let’s now discuss the suspension setup offered on the 2023 Yamaha R15. The Japanese bike manufacturer has retained the same setup as before- an inverted telescopic fork at the front and a linked-type monocross suspension at the rear. Since this Yamaha bikes is designed with a performance approach- the ride might feel slightly stiffer. But that adds on to the advantage, especially when riding around the corners. For your reference, a stiff suspension offers impressive stability at high speeds. However, at the same time, this bike has proven to sail through bad patches as well. That’s a sign of a well-tuned suspension, as it can be soft to absorb the bumps from potholes without letting the rider jostle.

Further, this suspenion arrangement works in tandem with standard dual disc brakes. Keeping safety in mind, the Yamaha R15 has dual-channel ABS as standard. And, when dual disc brakes and dual-channel ABS work together, they provide impressive braking power and control- which can decrease the chances of the rider from meeting an accident, especially on emergency brakings. As for the proportions of disc brakes, the front brake disc measures 282mm, while the rear disc brake measures 220mm. Last but not least, it has a brake calliper of dual pistons.
This 155cc bike run on standard alloy wheels that measure 17 inches. The front end has a tyre profile of 100/80 R17, while the rear end has a tyre profile of 140/70 R17. A bigger rear tyre provides more grip, due to which stability increases, which can make cornerings easy.

Features

Before mentioning the features, it is worth noting that these offerings belong to the top-of-the-line M variant. A few features might vary with the variant. However, the top model of the 2023 Yamaha R15 offers a fully digital instrument cluster, which displays speed, RPM, fuel gauge, low fuel indicator, low engine oil indicator, and a clock. Other notable features include an optional USB charging port, an automatic headlights-on feature, a pass light, a gear-shift light, and a killswitch. It, however, misses out on a low battery indicator.

The R15 has an in-built Bluetooth feature and this offering translates to mobile app connectivity, which it eventually does. To enable mobile app connectivity, the owner will have to download the Yamaha app, through which, the rider can access the bike’s status. It can let the owner track the live location, and last parked location, and can also check the speed and RPM dashboard. It also shows the upcoming service(s).

As for road illumination, this bike has LED lights that can be found inside the headlight, taillight, brake light, and turn indicators. It also has a side-stand cut-off engine feature. That means, this bike shuts off the engine, when the side stand is engaged.
So, these are a few features of this Japanese bike. You can, however, access the full list of features and specifications of the Yamaha R15 or of any other vehicle on the autoX website.
